Mindset | Winston’s Words of Wisdom
Well, here we go again, the inevitable “second spike”. Watching you people as I do, I suspect you’ll have one, some or all of the following reactions:
- this will be really quite unsettling and anxiety producing
- a mild inconvenience/irritant, but yet respectful of the wider impact on other people
- further proof that we are in the midst of a right wing takeover and our government are stripping us of our human rights.
You people are weird.
Luckily, I’m a dog and rarely have such thoughts. As long as I am fed, watered and get a run out a day I’m pretty happy.
I am largely untroubled by the higher levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs as you humans are.
Mindset by Dr Carol Dweck
Which leads me nicely to my book recommendation this week – Mindset, by the quite brilliant Dr Carol Dweck.
She explores in this book that whatever happens to you, it’s largely your reaction to it that determines your experience.
Those with a ‘growth’ mindset, see setbacks, failures, or anything that some perceive as ‘negative’ as a learning opportunity.
Those with a ‘fixed’ mindset are often troubled by the same things and can react quite badly.
In real life we often flex between being in one of those mindsets, but now more than ever, trying to adopt a Growth Mindset really will do you the world of good.
Happy reading, peace and love, Winston
Mindset: The New Psychology of Success
An extract from the Goodreads website.
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities.
People with a fixed mindset — those who believe that abilities are fixed — are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset — those who believe that abilities can be developed.
Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.
